Come on, let’s find out what type of cruiser you are!
The Cruise Foodie
Everyone knows that there are no calories in holiday food, especially when you’re cruising. These days cruise lines are home to award-winning Michelin-starred chefs, a dazzling and dizzying array of breakfast, lunch and dinners, and snacks, and supper, and early risers breakfast, and more dessert…! Each ship usually has multiple restaurants to choose from, so it’s very tempting to just splurge and go on a gastronomic adventure!
Specialty restaurants serving French-inspired cuisine paired with fine wines, the freshest of seafood and succulent steaks, huge buffets and BBQs, white-gloved and silver teapots at high-tea, it goes on and on. It’s every foodies dream to snap the perfect pic for their Facebook and Instagram page, to add to the dizzying array of delicious and delectable food – snap snap!
Celebrity Chefs Atul Kochhar, Marco Pierre White, Nobu Matsuhisa and Luke Nguyen have all made their mark on cruise ships. Some of the recent converts to culinary cruising include Richard Chen’s Harmony on Majestic Princess, Thomas Keller onboard Seabourn, Cornelius Gallagher’s Celebrity Edge Magic Carpet menu. Jamie Oliver supports Royal Caribbean while Curtis Stone creates menus onboard Princess as well as the ever-popular Luke Mangan onboard P&O Cruises.
The Chill Cruiser
The chill cruiser has been there, seen that and are ready to simply find their favorite location on the ship and chill. They’ll find a cocktail at a favorite bar, lunch in the dining room, lounge by the pool or take a bubble in the spa. Let’s just say that these guys and gals know how to reach their perfect state of relaxation!
With a comfy cabin, the kid’s having a ball at Kid’s Club, they are just as happy grabbing a good book solo from the onboard library as they are dancing the night away at the dress up party and making new friends. Yep, they’ve splashed in the pool, slid down the slides in the waterparks, rock climbing – well let’s leave to the younger ones, now it’s time to find a deckchair in the shade with a view of the ocean…. Ahhh…. Now this is cruising!
Any cruise is a good cruise for the chill cruiser. It’s all about being on the ocean, wind in their hair and sun on their face… preferably cocktail in hand. Check out Princess Cruises, Holland America, Silversea, European River Cruises, Celebrity Cruises and any other cruise line that will float your boat!
The Fab Fitness Cruiser
Stay fit on your cruise as most cruise lines are host to excellent world-class gyms and fitness activities for you to break a sweat in! There are all the usual bells and whistles such as pools, saunas and state-of-the-art fitness machines – steppers, bikes, treadmills and weights. Plus your ship may offer sports courts, rock-climbing walls, ice skating and roller skating rinks, get fit programs, healthy eating plans, surfing, bungee and more!
Keep an eye out for Zumba, boxing, aerobics, and other fitness programs onboard that’ll keep your heart pumping and the calories burning!
All cruiselines will offer some form of gym, activity or program to keep you fit and healthy while at sea. Try our Royal Caribbean’s Surf simulator, Norwegian Cruise Lines gym, or P&O Cruises adventure park, to name a few.
The Cultured Cruiser
If you’re looking for the finer things in life while you’re onboard a cruise, you are in the right place! Cruises offer the refined and cultured cruiser a taste of the high life – with Broadway-caliber musicals, live classical performances from the world’s most renowned orchestras, and some of the most awe-inspiring and soul-stirring expeditions, journeys, and adventures from around the world!
From Michelin-starred chefs to exceptional wine tasting, art galleries, expert photography seminars, cooking and craft workshops, even digital learning classes to give you that competitive edge in this day and age of information.
Your perfect cruise to appeal includes Holland America, Oceania, Regent Seven Seas, Silversea, Azamara Cruises, Scenic and more. Speak with your cruise specialist about your preferences and they will find the cruise that will suit your tastes.
The Adventurous Cruiser
Those looking to spend their holiday exploring the wild, wild world also have a place onboard! The adventurous cruiser goes cruising because they know they’re diving into a whole new world of fun.
They will be right there climbing the rock wall, bungee jumping, scooting across the deck (and anywhere else) on a flying fox. These adventurous souls are the ones you see jogging at 6 AM after dancing ‘til dawn with the best of them. They are fun, fearless, and ready for adventure onboard and on-shore.
Some of their favorite excursions may be snorkeling or diving on the Great Barrier Reef, exploring mystical glacial formations of Alaska or Antarctica by Zodiac, canoeing along the Amazon River, or making a spiritual pilgrimage to the temples of Siem Reap onboard a Mekong River Cruise.
You won’t see the adventurous cruiser staying in their cabin for too long. A cabin is for a quick change, shower or sleep (and maybe a quick nap between lunch and an exercise class!).
Cruiselines that appeal to adventurers are the thrill of a Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines, the intriguing exploration of an APT, the small ship discoveries of an Azamara Cruises or the in-depth island hopping of a Captain Cook Cruise… there’s more!
The Family Guy (or Gal)
Who says you can’t cruise with kids? Cruising is IDEAL for kids!
In 2018, there were 27 million cruise passengers that took a holiday at sea – and most of those were families! Most families will be located poolside, parents lounging, the kids going on the waterslide for the twentieth time. Hey, maybe some of the adventurous parents will join in the fun, too!
There’s a lot of activities to choose from that caters to cruisers of all ages! Most cruise lines offer kids clubs with age appropriate activities for toddlers through to teens. With new friends and a whole lot of fun, you may not even see them half the time! Adults, on the other hand have time to reconnect and enjoy their own activities from adult-only serenity areas, pools, sports, fitness classes, cooking demonstrations, destination snapshots, crafty workshops, live entertainment, spa treatments and more onboard.
The perfect cruise ships for families are Carnival Cruises, Disney Cruises, P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean for their exciting waterslides… and there are more!
The Romantic Duo
Cruising is like taking an entire luxury package while exploring the best destinations around the world – and this makes it an excellent choice for those celebrating their honeymoon, anniversary, or second/third/dare we say fourth honeymoon, too!
The romantic duo chooses to stroll through the ports and experience the most glamorous and exotic experiences on offer! Once back onboard, they’ll find a cozy corner to share dinner, take time to be pampered at the spa, walk hand in hand along the deck and take advantage of that luxury stateroom!
Hey, did you know you can also tie the knot at sea?!
The ideal cruise lines for lovebirds are Celebrity Cruises, Princess Cruises, Azamara Cruise Lines or Silversea for that touch of luxury or if you really want to get away from it all and be pampered try a Windstar Cruises, Ponant or Paul Gaugin cruise to somewhere tropical.
The Single Mingler
Who says you can’t travel alone? With a ton of activities onboard, the Single Mingler will never run out of things to do! Always up for meeting new people and doing new things, you’ll find the Single Mingler everywhere from the dining room, bar and buffet line, to joining in at trivia, bingo and any other onboard event. Get ready for fun when a group of single cruisers get together to explore each destination or get a team together for a game of beach volleyball!
Cruise lines offering solo cabins include Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International, Cunard, and more. Often cruiselines offer a cabin share situation with a same-sex roomie. We also note that there are more and more cruise ships being built these days with the Single Mingler in mind!
