Does a romantic getaway on a private island sound good to you? You’re not alone. In fact, the people at Renaissance Island in Aruba already know it.
Renaissance Island
Renaissance Island is owned by the four-star-rated Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino in Oranjestad. Guests of the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino are given free access to the entire resort during hours of operation. If you wish to visit for the day you can easily purchase a day pass to explore and have fun.
Flamingo Beach
Flamingo Beach is an adults-only beach you can enjoy when you travel to Renaissance Island. The island is a 40 acre privately owned, artificial isle. Situated off the coast near Oranjestad, the area includes a diving site 50 yards offshore created by a deliberately sunken aircraft (a Convair 400 and Beechcraft 18).
There’s also a mangrove and the only pair of private white, sandy beaches on Aruba. They are Iguana Beach and the famous flamingo-inhabited Flamingo Beach. Flamingo Beach can be found in the southwest section of Renaissance Island.
The adults-only status of Flamingo Beach lends it a quieter air. Yeah, you heard that right – adults only! Visitors confirm the spectacular view of its namesake flamingos who seek food where the beach gently joins the ocean. Despite this activity, the only sound you are likely to hear is that of the breeze gently wafting through the leaves of the tall palm trees.
All for the Birds
Yes, the adults-only status is truly “for the birds.” The famous flamingos are everywhere. In fact, when you visit the beach you may notice that the flamingos can on occasion be what some might consider a wee bit too curious and perhaps to some even a little disturbing at first.
Still, the flamingos make a lovely backdrop. They also add something unique to the overall atmosphere. That is why the management of the popular Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino chose to not permit children on the island in order to effectively “minimize the disturbance” of the resident flamingo population.
Why Flamingo Beach?!
Experts report that Flamingo Beach is “a perfect spot” for open-air massages, romantic getaways and cocktails. You’ll find the experience to be rejuvenating. Since it provides protection from the trade winds, you’ve got to be sure to bring along plenty of sunscreen even if you’re accustomed to spending time in the sun. If you’re in the mood for drinks and a snack you can check out the nearby Papagayo Bar & Grill.
Towels, beach chairs and even lunch are free to both guests and those visitors with a day pass. Because Flamingo Beach is “adults only” you can even enjoy topless sunbathing. Totally up to you on that one. Topless sunbathing is not required by any means. In fact, nudity is actually prohibited. So don’t get too carried away.
