Traveling the world is a true adventure, no matter how you do it. While some explorers may want to hit all the popular attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, famous museums and many other beautiful sights, there are also those who are less conventional and just a tad more … curious than the average sightseer. If you tend to fall into the latter category, we at Must Do Travels have put together a list of some of our favorite unique tours from around the world.
Paris Catacombs
Paris is often thought of as the most romantic city in the world. Like most beautiful places, however, if you look beneath the surface, you’ll find very strange and dark things.
In the 1700s, Paris had a problem: too many deceased bodies and not enough cemetery space. So, underground limestone quarries were used as a depository for human corpses. It is said that over six million bodies line the walls, creating a pathway of corpses that spans nearly a kilometer long. This tour is certainly not for the squeamish or the faint of heart. It also comes as no surprise that the catacombs are said to be haunted.
Crop Circles Tour of England
When you think about the U.K., you probably think of tea, the royal family, The Beatles and … aliens?
Of course, the mysterious Stonehenge rock formations are famous, but they are just the beginning. You can take a flight tour around England to see the sights of strange crop circles that have popped up all over the country. Beware though, as some of these tours claim that your cameras or even your pacemaker may even malfunction during these tours!
Dearly Departed Tour of LA
While in L.A., most tourists like to take bus tours to see where the stars are living, but what about seeing where they died? On this morbid adventure, you can visit real crime scenes of celebrity deaths, listen to 911 calls, see gruesome memorabilia and even take the three-and-a-half-hour tour that traces the steps of the Manson Family, aka “The Helter Skelter Tour.” This is definitely not a family-friendly activity!
Chernobyl, Ukraine
Chernobyl, Ukraine is the site of the greatest nuclear disaster the world has ever seen and it is now open for you to visit. Drive around and see these silent ghost towns where life suddenly stopped mid-sentence. Tables are still set for meals that would never be had, classrooms are still intact and goods from the 1980s can be seen strewn about town. If you’re worried about radiation, it’s good to know that the levels have gone significantly and it is now considered safe, but for a low cost, you can purchase a Geiger counter just to be sure.
VooDoo Tours of Haiti
When in Haiti, you can experience the magic and intensity of voodoo first hand. Start with a live voodoo show, meet voodoo priests and even partake in a real ceremony. Heads up: these ceremonies can involve animal sacrifices; so, it might be best if your vegan cousin sits this one out.
So, there you have it: no matter what your interests are, there’s a guided tour for you – and this list is just the tip of the iceberg! Almost every city and country has tours for the more curious individual and we at Must Do Travels are happy to help you book the strange trip of your dreams! Ready? Let‘s go!
