Each year, professional and amateur photographers from across the globe submit their very best images in multiple categories. This year, over 5000 photos were submitted by contestants spanning 71 different countries – the largest number ever. Here are the top ten travel-related images from the 2017 Epson International Pano Awards.
Good Morning Damian Shan
This photo was the overall winner in the open landscape category. It was taken in China.
Incoming
This photo won the amateur landscape category and was taken in New South Wales, Australia. It was taken by amateur photographer Ray Jennings.
Whuzi Hill
This photo was taken in China and was submitted as an open landscape entry. It was also taken by Good Morning Damian Shan photographer, Jesus M. Garcia.
Silent Soldiers
An entry in the amateur landscape category, Silent Soldiers was taken in Deadveil, Namibia. The submission was snapped by Stuart Bellamy.
Ten Huts
A top contestant in the Amateur Built Environment category taken in the United Kingdom. The image was taken by Darren Moore. Incidentally, this overwater hut differs quite greatly from the familiar concept huts that originated in French Polynesia. Quite beautiful.
Eye of Stokksnes
This breathtaking shot won the Carolyn Mitchum Award for the shot that best upholds honesty and integrity in photography. It was taken by Ivan Turukhano in Iceland.
Stranger Things
Sharing the name of Netflix’s uber-popular TV series, the images purportedly captures images similar to the “Upside Down.” The otherworldly image was captured in Boeun, South Korea by Nate Merz. He won second place in the amateur landscape category.
Poseidon Awakens
This breathtaking seascape was an open landscape entry by Paolo Lazzarotti. The shot was taken in Spezia, Italy. Makes it almost imperative to go and visit the magnificent coastal town, immediately. Then again, is there a photo we’ve seen so far that doesn’t demand travel?
Rainbow Over Monument Valley
This shot was captured just a few hours drive north of Must Do Travels headquarters in Arizona- making us all proud of our own resplendent geography. Kudos to Frederic Huber for the amazing shot, incredible timing and diligence to pull it off in a likely short temporal window. It was submitted to the amateur landscape category.
Across the Universe
Taken in California, this Luca Benini image was submitted for consideration in the open landscape category. What a beautiful shot!
